For a century we tried to make the digital world permanent: every message archived, every photo backed up, every page cached against loss. Ephemerall asks the older question — what if forgetting were the default again?

It is a question culture keeps answering, in every era and medium:

The opposite impulse has its own monument: the Long Now Foundation is building a clock meant to tick for ten thousand years.
